In 2023, we are inundated with life hacks curtesy of Instagram, TikTok and the like. I stumbled across this jewellery cleaning tip a few years ago on Youtube, and it has been an absolute gem (pun intended): easy to do and it works every single time.

- In a heat-proof, microwave-proof bowl, pour a generous amount of Windex (or similar) window cleaner, and a hearty drizzle of dishwashing liquid. Yes, you read that correctly. Use a very soft bristled toothbrush to give the solution a bit of a mix, then microwave on high for one minute.
- Drop your jewellery into the bowl of warm solution, and leave it for about five minutes. Any really dirty pieces such as earring posts should fizzle away in there.
- Use your super soft toothbrush to get rid of any tough build-up. Drop your jewellery back in the bowl. You can leave it there for as long as you like, even overnight, but mine is usually done by this stage.
- Gently rinse the solution off your jewellery with clean water, and pat dry with paper towel. Voila! Your jewellery should be sparkly clean and as good as new!
